Most Tennessee residents are probably aware of the dangers of drunk driving. However, not all residents may think of the repercussions before getting behind the wheel. Others may not realize they are legally intoxicated after just a drink or two. A woman who recently crashed her car is now facing drunk driving charges.

A teenage boy, identified as the woman’s son informed a passerby that the crash was an old crash and they did not need any assistance. When police arrived the woman allegedly told them she’d swerved to keep from hitting an animal in the road. The police observed a vehicle on its roof in a ditch. While talking with the woman, both she and her son became argumentative.

According to officers, the woman performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was unable to follow their directions. A search of the vehicle resulted in them finding several prescription medication bottles and a white powdery substance. She received several charges as a result of the crash including driving on a suspended license, which she argued at the scene wasn’t correct.

This woman and others in a similar situation could benefit from knowing their rights under the Tennessee law. Drunk driving charges are taken seriously in a court of law and when combined with other charges it can be important for one to not only know their rights, but to understand the possible outcomes as well. Sentencing on these cases can vary greatly. With an understanding of all available options, a person can be more likely to receive the best possible outcome.
