Drunk driving leads to Knoxville crashes

A Tennessee man is facing charges as the results of events that unfolded recently on Henley Bridge and then in South Knoxville. The 60-year-old man has had charges filed against him for drunk driving and failing to drive within lane lines. He also faces two counts of failure to report a crash after two hit-and-run incidents allegedly caused by him. Neither wreck resulted in life-threatening injuries.

Police were first called to a mid-afternoon hit-and-run crash on Henley Bridge. A 47-year-old man driving a compact car was struck head-on by a pickup truck that was eventually found to have been operated by the accused. The man was treated for injuries and was cited for driving without a license and lack of insurance.

While working that scene the police were called to another crash at Chapman Highway and East Martin Mill Pike. They found a 43-year-old driver of a station wagon with injuries suffered after she was purportedly struck by the same pickup truck. She was cited for driving without a license, and her injuries were treated at a local hospital.

After the second incident, the driver of the truck is said to have continued south on Chapman Highway. A wheel fell off of the vehicle near the intersection of Woodlawn Pike. He was also treated at a local hospital for injuries suffered in the wrecks. A third charge, driving without insurance, was also filed against the man.

Anyone charged with drunk driving in Tennessee could be impacted by some of the harshest penalties in the country if found guilty. Jail time, severe fines and lost driving privileges can all result from a negative outcome at trial. The chances for a more favorable outcome are likely if an attorney with focused knowledge of the Tennessee DUI legal process is enlisted to help with the case.
