Fatal accident leads to third-offense drunk driving charges

Certain factors can aggravate criminal charges. As a result, someone could potentially face more severe consequences should the court convict him or her of the alleged crime. In many cases, drunk driving charges can become more severe if individuals have been convicted in the past or if fatalities result from DUI-related accidents.

One man in Tennessee is currently facing several charges after a recent fatal accident. Reports stated that the man was driving a minivan with his 33-year-old son as a passenger. The van reportedly hit the curb of the road multiple times before it went off the road and hit a fire hydrant. The impact caused the van to turn onto its side, trapping both the driver and passenger inside.

Emergency crews came to the scene and extricated both individuals from the van. Regrettably, the passenger suffered fatal injuries in the incident and was declared dead at the accident site. The driver was taken to an area hospital, but it was not detailed what injuries he may have suffered. Authorities did believe that the man was under the influence at the time of the accident, and as a result, he is currently facing charges for DUI for a third offense, vehicular homicide and having an open container.

Because the man is facing drunk driving charges for a third time and is also accused of vehicular homicide, he will likely have to contend with a difficult case. Fortunately, he does have legal options that could help him through this predicament. Exploring those options and gaining information from local Tennessee legal resources may help him determine how he would feel most comfortable moving forward to address the allegations.
