Man faces vehicular homicide charges in Tennessee

A wreck recently occurred in Tennessee, leaving one person dead and two injured. Police said the crash was the result of drunken driving. The man believed to have been driving while intoxicated, and therefore causing the accident, now faces charges of vehicular homicide.

According to police, a 31-year-old man was driving on a highway. A little before 11 p.m. on a Friday, his pickup truck crossed the road’s middle line and ended up striking a car. A woman was driving the car, which was also carrying her husband and daughter. The family was on their way back from the home of the woman’s mother when the head-on crash occurred.

The woman suffered injuries and was taken to the hospital in serious condition; however, her husband, who had worked as a security officer in a local school, passed away due to his injuries. Their daughter, 3, also suffered injuries. Police said the pickup driver had been drinking before the head-on wreck and will face criminal charges of vehicular homicide. He also received citations for failing to maintain his lane and due care.

The Tennessee man facing charges of vehicular homicide has the right to fight the charges in criminal court. Instead of proceeding directly to trial, however, he may be given the opportunity to strike a plea deal with prosecutors. Such a plea agreement may lead to a lighter, and thus more personally favorable sentence, for the defendant. The man’s criminal defense will strive for an outcome that is in his best interests considering all of the circumstances surrounding the case.
