Tennessee couple charged with tax evasion

Many people feel that filing taxes is one of the more stressful aspects of life. It can be even more difficult to file those taxes correctly if individuals run their own businesses or have other details to include in their forms. Unfortunately, if individuals come under suspicion by the Internal Revenue Service, they could end up facing criminal charges for tax evasion.

It was recently reported that two people in Tennessee were taken into custody on such charges. Apparently, a 55-year-old man and his 50-year-old wife were indicted on separate charges pertaining to tax evasion and issues with tax records. The couple reportedly operate a tire and service center, which is where they were when authorities took them into custody.

Now, the man is facing charges for falsification of sales tax returns, theft of property over $10,000 and sales tax evasion. His bond was set at $5,000. The woman is currently charged with theft of property over $250,000, sales tax evasion and falsification of sales tax records. Her bond was set at $15,000. It was noted that if convicted, the man could face up to six years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines for theft of property, and if the woman is convicted, she could face up to 25 years in prison and $50,000 for theft of property.

The charges for tax evasion and other allegations likely have these individuals feeling concerned for their futures. The outcomes could be costly if they face convictions for the charges, so they undoubtedly want to find the best ways to handle each of their cases. Gaining information from local Tennessee legal resources may help them better understand their options.
