Law enforcement officials are charged with keeping the general public safe. However, if someone has been charged with an offense, that does not mean that the person is guilty of the accusations. Unfortunately, one Tennessee man who was charged with a crime on a Thursday was arrested days later and charged with vehicular homicide in connection with the death of a pedestrian.

The man was allegedly involved in another incident less than a week earlier. In the first accident, the man’s vehicle is said to have struck another vehicle along its side on a narrow road. The man was apparently stopped when he traveled back through the area where the accident occurred. Police claim he could not complete a sobriety test, and he was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Because he did not have a record of past offenses,the man was released on bail and retained possession of his vehicle. Within four days, he was apparently involved in a more serious accident when he allegedly struck and killed a pedestrian. According to Tennessee officials, the man did not stop after this fatal accident.

It was not reported as to how this man came to be arrested and charged with vehicular homicide after the fatal pedestrian accident. However, he is now facing graver charges that could result in severe penalties is a conviction is ultimately obtained. Nevertheless, he is still protected by the legal presumption of innocence. Furthermore, he is also granted the right to challenge the admissibility at trial of specific items of evidence and to otherwise contest the charges pending against him. Along with his defense team, he will have the opportunity to present a defense that is focused on achieving the best possible outcome that is in his individual interests.
