Woman faces drunk driving charges in Tennessee

One woman in Tennessee was recently charged with DUI after a sport utility vehicle crashed into a bar. The accident took place on a recent Thursday afternoon. Even when a person is charged with drunk driving, he or she is presumed innocent unless and until his or her guilt is proved in a court of law.

The crash happened at about 4:15 p.m. Police said witnesses told them that the driver of the car was looking directly ahead when she collided with the building. The woman reportedly looked dazed when police approached her.

According to officials, the woman had watery, red eyes as well as extremely dilated pupils that did not react to light. They said the woman later admitted that she had taken some pain medication; she said she could not recall whether she had taken the medication that day and whether she had drunk any alcohol. No one was injured in the crash, although the accident caused a portion of the building’s front wall to be destroyed.

The woman accused of drunk driving has the right to proceed directly to trial to fight the charges. At trial, prosecutors must prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt before a conviction can be secured. Instead of going to trial, the woman may instead choose to strike a plea deal with prosecutors, which may lead to a reduced sentence for her. The woman’s criminal defense will strive for an outcome that is in the defendant’s best interests considering the circumstances surrounding the Tennessee drunk driving case.
